I Read Books

So I know most of us have long forgotten our New Years Resolutions. I have all these goals written in the front of my calendar and we won’t talk about how all of them are going. I did, however, tell myself that I wanted to read 25 books this year. I’m usually the girl who reads a couple books on vacation and then takes months off. I’ve just finished book 9 of 2018 so far I’m really enjoying it. Yall…all those teachers were right…reading is fun. I’m giving you a short run-down of some of the books so far in hopes that you will get hooked on phonics too (and that I would have some accountability that I will actually stick to this goal).

Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life by [Bush Hager, Jenna, Bush, Barbara Pierce]

Sisters First by Jenna B. Hager and Barbara Bush is a memoir type book about them growing up in a family of presidents and they’re sister relationship along the way. As an only child I have always been fascinated by siblings. I built in friend forever sounds like a dream, and Jenna and Barbara  definitely keep that dream alive. They also have a really cool family that was fun to read about.

If You Only Knew: My Unlikely, Unavoidable Story of Becoming Free by [Ivey, Jamie]

Jamie Ivey hosts “The Happy Hour.” It’s a successful podcast where she chats with all sorts of speakers, authors, etc., and I really enjoy listening to it. In her book, If You Only Knew, she talks about the messy parts of life that people aren’t willing to talk about and how she’s found freedom. I devoured this book in a day. It’s a book that makes you feel a lot less alone.

Forever is the Worst Long Time: A Novel by [Pagán, Camille]

I read a lot more novels this year than usual…and I’ve loved it so far.  I finished Forever is the Worst Long Time by Camille Pagan last night. Yall…I cried my eyes out the last three chapters. I didn’t see the ending coming at all and when I figured out what the author was doing, I couldn’t control myself. That…and it was probably time for a good cry anyways. It was the perfect storm for me apparently.

Obviously, this is only 1/3 of my 9 books for the year, but they were my favorite so far. Hopefully I’ll have some more recommendations later…I mean I better… I gotta stick to the one goal I haven’t given up on yet.
